The Optimum Drywall Welsh team are proud to be working on their largest project to date, the New Velindre Cancer Centre in Cardiff, marking another significant milestone in our growing healthcare portfolio.

Collaborating with Sacyr UK & Ireland, this project will provide a state-of-the-art cancer treatment facility designed to provide world-class care and a therapeutic environment for patients, visitors and staff across Wales.

Optimum’s scope of works will support the complex and highly regulated requirements of a major healthcare environment and will include internal lightweight partitioning, drylining, finishing and suspended secondary ceilings. With work on site well underway, the project has an estimated value of £8.3 million.

This appointment represents a major achievement for Optimum Drywall in Wales and reinforces our expertise in delivering large, highly specialised healthcare projects.

Investing in People on Site

Alongside the project win, Optimum is pleased to welcome new team members Wade Davis Dunn, Trainee Quantity Surveyor, and Selva Murugasan, Trainee Assistant Site Manager, who joined the Welsh team from the outset and have been gaining hands-on experience working on the Velindre project.

Their appointments reflect Optimum’s ongoing commitment to developing future talent and supporting career progression within the business.

We have recently added additional site and commercial team members to the project, strengthening our ability to deliver as works progress

Leadership Engagement and Site Visit

To mark the scale and importance of the project, the Optimum directors recently visited the New Velindre Cancer Centre site to meet the team and review progress first-hand. The visit reinforced the Group’s hands-on leadership approach and commitment to supporting teams delivering some of the most important projects in the business.

A summary of the visit and reflections from Managing Director Simon Britton can be viewed on LinkedIn here

Sustainability and Responsible Delivery

One of the new Velindre Cancer Centre’s main objectives is to be the UK’s most sustainable hospital, with a minimum target of BREEAM Excellent and low carbon footprint. The complete build is focused on promoting the most comfortable and stress-reducing environment for patients, visitors and staff, using natural materials and sympathetic design.

For Optimum, the installation of the Fermacell® partition systems significantly contributes towards achieving the sustainability goals, with the gypsum fibre boards being largely made from recycled materials and aiding in the reduction of the footprint by storing carbon.

Looking Ahead

The New Velindre Cancer Centre is a project of national importance, and Optimum is proud to play a role in delivering a facility that will make a lasting difference to healthcare provision in Wales.

Regular updates will be shared as the project progresses, highlighting key milestones, team achievements and insights from the site.
